Job Summary
Job Summary
Provide radiation therapy treatments and function as an essential member of the radiation oncology treatment team, in order to provide total quality care to patients. Must be a graduate of an accredited radiation therapy program, a registered Radiation Therapist by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT), and certified by the Texas Department of Health as a Medical Radiological Technologist (MRT).
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Treatment - Demonstrates competency to deliver a planned course of radiation therapy accurately and safely.Uses appropriate machine settings to deliver treatment while monitoring the patient visually and aurally during treatment.  Monitors treatment console during treatment.  Takes appropriate verification images.  Checks treatment plan and calculations prior to initial treatment.  Reports any deviations in treatment plan to appropriate persons. Reviews patient treatment record and daily doses to ensure that treatment does not exceed prescribed dose or normal tissue tolerance. (EF)
  1. Simulation – Competent to perform basic operations and scanning techniques. Selects appropriate immobilization and positioning aides for simulation and treatment.  Fabricates immobilization devices and custom blocks. Documents simulation steps accurately. (EF)
  1. Patient Care- Provides accurate explanations and instructions to patient’s a level consistent to the patients understanding. Assesses the patient’s condition, needs, and side effects daily. Assesses the patient’s need for information and reassurance.  Refers the patient to the appropriate resources.  Demonstrates sensitivity to the patient’s needs. (EF)
  1. Communication/Teamwork- Communicates in a professional manner to patients and staff. Uses appropriate verbal and non verbal communication.  Effectively communicates patient care issues to team. Works with supervision to complete task. Manages time effectively
  1. EMR/MOSAIQ- Basic knowledge of MOSAIQ applications.  Documents each treatment delivered in the patient record and provides notes when needed. Creates simulation and treatment fields, calendars and dose action points.  (EF)

Educational Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
Experience Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
  • Clinical judgment and knowledge of radiation therapy theory, practices and safety
Certificates, Licenses and Registration Requirements
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technology in Radiation Therapy.
  • Licensed by the Texas Department of Health as a Medical Radiological Technologist.
  • CPR Certification through the American Heart Association
