Job Summary

The Activities Coordinator conducts patient activities and  patient contact to reinforce cognitive stimulation, to encourage socialization and to promote self initiative. Helps plan and maintain unit appearance/pt activities to reflect seasons/ program themes to help maintain patient satisfaction and support treatment.     

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES      1. Develop and implement therapeutic activities for small and large groups based on participant`s level of functioning. Planning for thematic decoration and special events.  2. Train Mental Health Techs to carry out activities when the Activity Coordinator is not present.  3. Fill in for program staff as needed. 4. Plan a daily schedule of physical, social and spiritual activities according to patient abilities.  5. Develop and maintain a library of structured tasks for patient use.  6. Order and maintain activity program supplies according to budget.  7. Work with the team to promote a positive, calm, joyful environment throughout the center.  8. Assess participants` need for therapeutic social and recreational activities.  9. Document patient participation and behavior based on each patient`s individualized care plan.  10. Demonstrate ICARE values with patients, visitors, coworkers 11. Exercise accountability for patients and staff safety.    

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS     Complete certification course for Certified Activities Coordinator or equivalent.      

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS     1 year of employment in a patient activities program in a health care setting, mental health setting, or setting for the care of the disabled.      

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED     Certified Activities Coordinator or equivalent.      

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED     1. Have a working knowledge of psychiatric illness and related behaviors or have a demonstrable aptitude for working with psychiatric patients.   2. Have experience in a team focused work setting; ability to provide a joyful, supportive environment that enhances the quality of life for patients.
