Job Summary

Under direction is responsible for functional and operational aspects of an assigned area of the Inpatient PT/OT and Speech Pathology Departments. This person provides leadership, guidance, and direction to staff. Maintains accountability for level of performance and results of assigned areas. Responsible for quality and functional excellence. Contributes to accomplishment of strategic and operational objectives. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Participates in planning, budgeting, and general management efforts for the department and/or unit, which is part of the department. Manages operational budget within targets.  2. Plans and organizes day-to-day operations, schedule, and activities of the unit(s) within targets.   3. Sets priorities and functional standards, gives direction to staff as necessary.  4. Organizes, oversees, and leads work efforts as appropriate to insure the best possible delivery of service and high customer/patient satisfaction. Identifies and implements work improvement processes when needed.  5. Makes and executes decisions within delegating authority. Surfaces issues to management for resolution as appropriate. Participates in resolving issues outside delegated scope of authority.  6. Provides the leadership to have a competent and satisfied employee group by doing timely performance appraisals, providing development and mentoring of subordinates and staff. Develops subordinates to perform these same functions.  7. Hires, coaches, trains, disciplines, and terminates staff as necessary. Develops subordinates to perform these same functions.  8. Maintains balance between job and personal life to insure good health.  9. Demonstrates I CARE Values and ServicePRIDE Standards. 10. Performs other related work as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:  Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or Speech Pathology.  Advanced degree in professional or related field preferred, but appropriate experience may be substituted for an advanced degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  5  to 6  years of progressively responsible staff therapist experience, with 1 to 2 years of experience in management, supervision or as a team leader. Knowledge of the disciplines to be managed. Knowledge of managerial principles, processes, procedures, and metrics. Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships. Skill in verbal and written communication. Skill in planning, organizing, and delegating functional activities. Skill in coaching, counseling, and developing the functional and supervisory skills of others. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Current Texas licensure as an Occupational or Physical Therapist or as Speech Language Pathologist.   Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
