Job Summary

SUMMARY     

There is a regular, full-time position available for a Research Assistant I/II in the laboratory of Dr. Kyuson Yun.  Her laboratory studies the biology of normal and cancer stem cells of the mammalian brain.  The ongoing experiments in Dr. Yun’s lab utilize mouse models as discovery tools for novel insights and validation of those discoveries in patient-derived cancer samples and cultures, with the goal of developing potential new treatments for brain cancer patients.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES     

Duties May Include:

  • Directs Laboratory Research Plans, directs and coordinates laboratory research projects (Low to medium complexity) Determines specific goals objectives to be attained Assigns and reviews work of research project staff. Oversees team of Research Assistants and Post Docs 0 to 2 Establishes and maintains quality control of project operations. 
  • Grant Writing and Publications Plans research (Low to medium complexity) Analyses data (Low to medium complexity) Reviews scientific literature. 
  • General Laboratory Duties Defines problems and possible solutions (Low to medium complexity) Adheres to internal controls established for Department.  
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance Writes and maintains regulatory and safety committee applications/protocols Adheres to and assists with customizing of TMH & TMHRI Safety Procedures for Laboratory. 
  • Demonstrates the componets of the ICARE values statement. 
  • Follows safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects safety hazards. Compiles all hospital required and job-related in-services and applies the information needed. 
  • Mouse husbandry and manipulations
  • Lab organization and maintenance in a high-energy and fast-paced laboratory
  • Assisting in various experiments in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology
  • Preparing, banking and tracking different types of samples
  • Making stock solutions, PCR genotyping, sectioning, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned      

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS     

Master of Science (MS) with 5+ years experience Or Terminal Degree with 5 years experience, 2 + years preferred.
