Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The Financial Analyst’s role is to help the Houston Methodist Global Healthcare Services organization effectively plan, manage and report on its financial operations. Critical success factors include strong organizational skills; the ability to multitask; timeliness; accuracy; a passion for financial integrity and a strong customer service orientation.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities are cross-referenced to Houston Methodist’s Pillars of Excellenceand will be transferred to the Performance Evaluation.

SERVICE (20%)

  1. Assist HMG Finance Director with ad hoc reporting and strategic projects.
  2. Meet with department leaders to review monthly financial performance.
  3. Prepare and distribute monthly financial reporting package.
  4. Work on clearing any open audit items.

 QUALITY/SAFETY (20%)

  1. Ensure that items capitalized and expensed are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and The Methodist Hospital System’s policy and procedures.
  2. Complies with Business Practices standards for performance.
  3. Follow all safety rules on job.

 

FINANCE (20%)

  1. Prepare and distribute annual operating and capital budgets, latest thinking forecasts monthly, and monthly metrics scorecard to key stakeholders within the organization.
  2. Analyze monthly financial performance and provide clear and concise variance explanations.
  3. Process capital and operating expenditure requests.
  4. Maintain accrual worksheets and account reconcilications, and identify accruals needed before the financial close.
  5. Advise Corporate Accounting of reclass and reconciling entries to be posted in the month after close.

 

GROWTH/INNOVATION (20%)

  1. Recommend changes to enhance system of internal controls and operating performance.
  2. Assist with strategic projects that will provide professional growth opportunities.
  3. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or finance required.  Master’s degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of three years of accounting/finance experience. Experience in public accounting or health care preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Must be very proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate concepts, standards and instructions to others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to multitask / prioritize.
  • Must have background or experience in financial accounting or analysis.
