Research - Clinical
Houston Methodist Research Institute was formed in 2004 to rapidly and efficiently translate discoveries made in the laboratory and the clinic into new diagnostics, therapies and treatments. The research institute was created to provide the infrastructure and support for these endeavors, and to house the technology and resources needed to make innovative breakthroughs in important areas of human disease. A 540,000 square foot building dedicated to research, the research institute houses over 1,500 staff and trainees, 277 principal investigators and has more than 840 ongoing clinical trials.
Performs basic research duties under the supervision/direction of a Physician (Principal Investigator).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Immunocytes accumulation and activation in adipose tissue are hallmarks of obesity-induced adipose inflammation are associated with many killer diseases (Deng et al., Annual Review of Pathology, 2016). Our recent work uncovered a crosstalk between adipocytes and adipose tissue T-cells in the initiation of obesity-induced inflammation, indicating that the interaction of adipocytes and immunocytes through complex of signaling networks is essential for obesity-induced inflammation (Deng et al., Cell Metabolism, 2013). Understanding and targeting such intercellular networks of communication holds great promise for new advances in the treatment of obesity-associated diseases. We have generated some unique animal models to explore the regulatory networks in inflammatory diseases.
Experiences in cellular and molecular immunology (flow cytometry, primary immune cell culture, and mRNA/protein measurement) and in vivo animal studies are strongly preferred. Previous experience working with epigenetics or metabolic diseases is helpful, but not essential. Good communication and writing skills, willingness to collaborate with colleagues within and out of the laboratory are required.
Interested candidates should email a curriculum vitae, a cover letter with a brief description of research experience and interests, and contact information of referees to Dr. Tuo Deng at firstname.lastname@example.org
