Job Summary

 The Clinical Dietitian Specialist provides Medical Nutrition Therapy for patients referred by their physicians for nutrition intervention. The Clinical Dietitian Specialist will assess the patient`s nutritional status using recognized tools of assessment, recommend and instruct patient on the appropriate nutrition plan per the assessment or instruct the patient on the nutrition plan prescribed by the patient`s physician. The Clinical Dietitian Specialist will also plan, implement and supervise the nutrition plan of patients enrolled in the Medical Weight Management Program and actively participate in planning, instruction and evaluation of the nutrition education component of the program.     

1. Assess the nutrition status of patients referred for MNT.

2.Develop appropriate nutrition care plans for patients referred for MNT and instruct patients on the nutrition plan.

3.Accurately and promptly document MNT care plan.

4.Correspond with other health care professionals regarding patient`s nutrition care plan as indicated.

5. Plan, conduct and evaluate nutrition education comp1nt of the Medical W8 Management Program.

6. Implement and supervise the nutrition care of patients in the Medical W8 Management Program.

7. Remain current in clinical nutrition developments as applies to the patient population of Methodist Wellness Services.

Bachelor`s Degree in Dietetics and up to one year of post-degree work approved by ADA (American Dietetics Association) and/or internship.     

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS      3 years experience in clinical and/or outpatient settings working with a variety of patients. Demonstrate skill and knowledge related to assessment and education of the outpatient population. Work requires the analytical skills necessary in order to solve technical, clinical, administrative, or managerial problems that require a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline and/or design relatively complex plans, systems, and programs.     

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED      Work requires current license from State Board of Dietetics and current Registered Dietitian registration from Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association.     

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED      1. Broad knowledge of clinical dietetics and the application of nutrition care for a variety of medical conditions. 2. Specialized knowledge and experience in diabetes nutrition education is especially helpful. 3. Attends at least 15 hours of outside continuing education.                         4. Knowledge and skill in use of MS Office applications.                     5. Other computer skills highly desirable.
