Job Summary

SUMMARY:  The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direct supervision of a Health Care Provider or Nurse. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, and recording of medical information on patient charts. Prepares & maintains treatment rooms for examination of patients. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides care to patients visiting the clinic under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse/clinic manager.  2. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information on patients` charts.  3. Reports any observations, conditions and or problems of patients to the provider. Assist with clinical information for pre-certifications and authorizations, calling prescriptions, and any written patient communications, as required for provider services.  4. Records care administered according to established procedures. Maintains patient medical records according to established procedures  5. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as needed.  6. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Assists with inventory of supplies, maintaining equipment, general cleanliness of work station and exam rooms.  7. Follows channels of communication with co-workers for effective problem solving.  8. Functions as a team player within the clinic.  9. Demonstrates the components of the ICARE values statement.  10. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards.  11. Completes all hospital required and job-related in-services and applies the information as needed.  12. Performs other duties as assigned, and performs within the scope of practice of the Medical Assistant Certification 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum of 1 year of clinic/outpatient experience is required. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:  Medical Assistant certification is required. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:  Sterile processing certification preferred.  Basic Life Support WORKING :  Includes office, patient care units, invasive procedure areas. Includes exposure to hazardous chemicals and blood borne pathogens. Adherence to universal precautions is mandatory. Employee must be able to pull, push, lift items weighing greater than 25 pounds. Extended periods of standing are required. Significant potential for exposure to latex.
