Houston Methodist Hospital System in Houston, Texas, is seeking a faculty member to join our growing Acute Care Surgery Division. The Houston Methodist Hospital is the flagship tertiary care academic medical center of the system, with 982 beds, 87 operating rooms and 5 critical care units, including a 28 bed surgical intensive care unit. The Hospital is also undergoing a significant expansion to create more surgical ward and ICU beds and operating room theaters.
The clinical responsibilities of the division faculty include attending coverage of the surgical and liver critical care unit and emergency general surgery service. Candidates for the position must be certified (or eligible for certification) by the American Board of Surgery in both general surgery and surgical critical care. Houston Methodist Hospital sponsors 26 ACGME accredited educational programs including general surgery and abdominal transplantation and is a primary affiliate and teaching site of the Weill Cornell Medical College and the Houston campus of Texas A & M Health Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible to teach the general surgery residents and medical students.
Tremendous growth potential exists within the ACS Division and includes plans for a surgical critical care fellowship as well as development of the surgical critical care network in the 7 Houston Methodist System hospitals in the greater Houston area. Research programs in clinical, translational and health services research are ongoing in the division and the department of surgery. The successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to these research initiatives as programs within the Houston Methodist Research Institute, a state of the art research institute with an annual research portfolio exceeding $125M.
