Job Summary

SUMMARY:  The Patient Care Associate demonstrates basic knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately and carry out delegated tasks for age specific populations. He/She performs delegated patient care tasks under the supervision of a licensed nurse. He/she records data established by policy and procedure, and reports observations and patient problems to the licensed nurse. The Patient Care Associate is responsible for assigned non-nursing functions. The Patient Care Assistant practices Relationship Centered Care in concert with The Methodist Hospital values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence and ServicePride standards.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  1. Provides care to patients assigned within unit specific defined limits.  2. Performs treatments and procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.  3. Reports observations, conditions and problems of patients to the licensed nurse.  4. Records care administered according to established procedures.  5. Assists with maintaining equipment and supplies as established on the unit.  6. Follows channels of communication for effective problem solving.  7. Participates as a team player.  8. Demonstrates the components of the I CARE values statement (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence).  9. Demonstrates ServicePride standards (smiles and makes eye contact; greets each patient and visitor; seeks out patient and visitor contact; displays appropriate body language at all times; takes 5 minutes each day to go above and beyond for one patient or visitor; honors diversity; thanks every customer).  10. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.  11. Works cooperatively under the supervision of licensed personnel to achieve desired patient outcomes. 12. Demonstrates initiative in making frequent patient rounds and maintaining an organized patient environment. 13. Takes responsibility for reviewing hospital communication, revised/new policies and procedures, staff meeting minutes (100%) and attends at least 8 staff meetings per calendar year. 14. Performs other duties as assigned.  

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:  Must be at least 18 years of age.  High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  Previous experience or basic Nursing Assistant course is preferred. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Required.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: N/A  WORKING :  The Environmental Services aide will perform their cleaning duties in a variety of areas such as patient areas, lobbies, offices, elevators, stairwells, laboratory, restrooms corridors and outside areas such as entrances, grounds and parking lot.
