Job Summary


The Sr. Marketing Copywriter will conceptualize, research, write, and edit content for Houston Methodist marketing initiatives. He/she will author effective communications which will target patients, consumers and physicians. Communication should be persuasive, creative, and informative that follow the Houston Methodist Leading Medicine brand. This includes working in various media channels such as, but not limited to: advertising, scripts, annual reports, newsletters, brochures and other major marketing print and digital collateral. This individual should be equally skilled at making health care information understandable to everyday people.

                                               PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES          


PEOPLE – 25%

1.      Works closely with subject matter experts and clients to develop strong, clear and concise writing that appeals to the intended audience and champions the Houston Methodist brand.

2.    Collaborates with designers and marketing professionals to develop effective content across digital channels and formats.

  1. Works with the branding team and VP of Marketing and PR to develop key messages that support the Houston Methodist messaging strategy.
  2. Work with other writers/editors within the marketing department as a mentor and collaborator



  1. Develop concepts and content for a wide variety of projects, including but not limited to including ads, brochures, annual reports, fliers, direct mail and other consumer pieces.
  1. Collaborates with wider marketing team and stakeholders throughout the organization to  conceptualize, develop and/or revise content that meets expressed strategic goals



  1. Ensure writing is of Leading Medicine quality.
  2. Writing should be stellar in grammar, style and tone. Short and long-form copy should be versatile, as well as effective for headlines, taglines, and calls to action.
  3. Meet writing and content development deadlines to ensure quick turnarounds in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  4. Act as a brand steward, ensuring all messaging and copy is within brand voice and editorial guidelines

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, literature, marketing, public relations or related field.



 Eight years experience performing related work. Must possess professional web copywriting exp.; health care writing experience preferred.







  • Ability to work closely with designers to ensure a strong integration of copy and concept
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with copywriters, designers, subject matter experts and marketers
  • Ability to work both independently of and cooperatively with team members
  • A thorough knowledge of contemporary editorial and web practices.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional understanding of HM brand and the ability to reflect the brand identity through marketing copy.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
