Houston Methodist The Woodlands will be the eighth in the Houston Methodist system, offering The Woodlands community a full-service, acute care hospital with many of the same services as our flagship hospital in the Texas Medical Center. The $380 million campus will feature a new 187-bed, 470,000-square-foot facility. 

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, located at the intersection of TX 242 and I-45, is scheduled to open in July 2017. Construction includes a 150,000-square-foot medical building, which opened March 2016. The Medical Office Building 1 includes a Breast Care Center, Cancer Center & Infusion Center, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Wellness Services, Outpatient Laboratory and Therapy, in addition to multi-specialty physician practices.

Job Summary


Performs various jobs throughout the facility including the central plant, Medical Office Buildings, and all exterior grounds.  Demonstrates knowledge and skills in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and preventative maintenance, building automation and computer technology. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and direct the work activities of maintenance technicians and helpers.

  1. Liaison between management and contractors. Includes scheduling shutdowns, inspections, and start ups.

  1. Performs HVAC, electrical, plumbing and preventative maintenance, and building automation which include analysis, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  2. Maintain the operation of the central plant(s).
  3. Able to flex hours and provide on-call coverage during non-business hours.
  4. Communicates effectively with patients, family members, medical staff, co-workers, and other hospital personnel to contribute to the quality of the procedure and the work environment.



  1. Maintain and oversee life safety and utility systems to meet standards from regulatory agencies.



  1. Oversee the daily operations in lieu of the FMS coordinator or manager.



  1. Demonstrates continued learning and self initiative.
  2. Participates in facility committees and organizations.

High school diploma or GED equivalent. Vocation or trade school training in HVAC, electrical and/or building automation preferred.



Five years in a health care facility with experience listed in the job summary and responsibilities or comparable education/work related experience.  Lead man or senior technician experience a plus.



Maintenance Electrician’s license preferred.  Third Grade Stationary Engineer license preferred.  HVAC, electrical and/or building automation certificate preferred.




  • Knowledge and skills in all fields listed in job summary.
  • Knowledge in codes and regulations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.



Must be able to work under pressure to meet the demands of the Hospital. Walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, and pulling.  



Office, clinical, and non-clinical areas of the facility. Exterior areas of the property. May be exposed to fire and other emergencies throughout the facility.  May be exposed to variable temperatures, dust, fumes, confined spaces, electrical, mechanical, or pressurized equipment and various medical and chemical hazards.
