Houston Methodist The Woodlands will be the eighth in the Houston Methodist system, offering The Woodlands community a full-service, acute care hospital with many of the same services as our flagship hospital in the Texas Medical Center. The $380 million campus will feature a new 187-bed, 470,000-square-foot facility. 

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, located at the intersection of TX 242 and I-45, is scheduled to open in July 2017. Construction includes a 150,000-square-foot medical building, which opened March 2016. The Medical Office Building 1 includes a Breast Care Center, Cancer Center & Infusion Center, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Wellness Services, Outpatient Laboratory and Therapy, in addition to multi-specialty physician practices.


Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist II will competently and efficiently perform general and vascular ultrasound procedures. Works closely with Radiologist and referring physicians to ensure accuracy of ultrasound examination. Acts as a resource for specialized or complicated procedures.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 20%

  • Will assume "on call" responsibilities as needed to insure that the department is adequately covered at all times.
  • Ultrasonographer will be confident enough in his/her ability to report findings to Radiologist in "on call" situations.
  • The Ultrasonographer will ensure that exams are transferred and QC’d on the PAC’s system for interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of PACS, computer systems and hospital information system.

SERVICE - 20%

  • Will perform general ultrasound and vascular ultrasound examinations, including localization’s for minor surgical procedures (intraoperative procedures, biopsies, aspirations, etc.) utilizing various types of equipment in order to locate, evaluate, and record pertinent anatomical and pathological data for the diagnosis of disease.
  • Will be proficient in ordering exams in the Radiology Information System accurately without errors.
  • Will perform portable Ultrasound examinations in various units as required.

QUALITY/SAFETY - 20%

  • Notifies service when there is an apparent problem with the equipment per department procedures.
  • Understands and follows departmental policy and procedures.
  • Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records and computer security codes, as well as protects the integrity of privileged information.
  • Follows all safety rules on the job. Reports accidents promptly, & corrects minor safety hazards. Attends 85% of departmental meetings.

FINANCE - 20%

  • Monitors supplies to maintain par levels and reports and or orders supplies as needed to maintain par levels. Keeps Ultrasound department adequately stocked.

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 20%

  • Acts as a resource for specialized or complicated procedures; consistently applies knowledge from complex situations to improve practice, and shares improvements with team members.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or GED. Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technology Program with two (2) years of on-the-job training at an accredited hospital.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Two years experience as Ultrasound Technologist performing general, vascular, and special procedures required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRE

  • American Heart Association CPR card.
  • Registered in the General and Vascular Categories of Ultrasound
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers RDMS General Ultrasound 1 Category (OB or Abdomen Ultrasound Registry) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Sonography RT(S)
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers - RVT or Cardiovascular Credentialing International – RVS or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist – RT(R)
  • RVS or RVT is required within 18 months of hire date.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Professional appearance and demeanor. Willing to cross train in multimodalities. Advanced computer skills a plus such as knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access. The Ultrasound technologist is expected to take responsibilities on facility committees, and participate in hospital sponsored community events.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Includes office, patient care units, and invasive procedure areas. Includes exposure to hazardous chemicals and possible blood borne pathogens. Adherence to universal precautions is mandatory. Able to flex hours and work shifts to meet needs related to unanticipated acuity, volume changes or problems.
