Job Summary

The Project Specialist provides analytical and specialized technical support to department management. Responsible for specific moderately complex, project-oriented assignments which include leading, coordinating and completing projects related to operational activities. The Project Specialist works under the guidance of more senior staff.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE – 25%

  1. Interacts with others in a supportive, respectful manner. (EF)
  2. Production and presentation of activity level reports amongst management/ hospital leaders. (EF)
  3. Plan and coordinate Oncology Grand Rounds with CME office. (EF)
  4. Collaborate with marketing personnel in the development of marketing collateral.
  5. Attends and participates in departmental, administrative and hospital-wide committee meetings.

 

SERVICE – 25%

  1. Strives to exceed patients' and coworkers' expectations.
  2. Participates in, and may direct, problem definition and resolution activities. (EF)
  3. Management of all projects assigned by the Director of the department. (EF)
  4. Coordinate activities of designated projects to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within the prescribed time frame. (EF)

 

QUALITY/SAFETY – 25%

  1. Maintains and achieves the highest standards of quality and service.
  2. Performs data management and analysis.
  3. Development of reporting mechanisms for clinical activity levels and measuring/analyzing hospital performance. (EF)
  4. Develop and implement monitoring tools to assure adherence to established goals.
  5. Manage and coordinate Cancer program’s compliance with the American College of Surgeons regulations, the Commission on Cancer’s regulations, the Texas Department of Health’s division of Cancer Registry, and other regulatory body guidelines. (EF)

 

FINANCE – 15%

  1. Utilizes department resources/supplies efficiently.
  2. Provide support in grant submission and reporting.

 

GROWTH/INNOVATION – 10%

  1. Generates and communicates new ideas and suggestions that improve quality or service.
  2. Plan and coordinate community outreach activities to expand and enhance outreach efforts in alignment with the strategic goals of Houston Methodist Cancer Center. (EF)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Three (3) years of experience in related discipline to include 1 year of experience of project management experience.

MBA or MHA accepted in lieu of experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.

Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.

Strong analytical and interpersonal skills

Proficient in spreadsheet, word-processing, and presentation software

Professional handling of exposure to confidential/sensitive information
