JOB SUMMARY
At Houston Methodist, the Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) III position is responsible for providing technical & On-Call support on the analysis, maintenance, calibration, installation, and upgrades on all assigned medical and other electronic equipment and demonstrate technical support for all modalities of medical, surgical, and other therapeutic equipment, and conduct safety inspections for the institution and to meet regulatory guidelines. This position provides first call technical support for x-ray and imaging systems and first call and scheduled maintenance for ultrasound systems. The BMET III position works under minimal supervision and conducts work, provides records, and maintains a database of scheduled maintenance, corrective maintenance, and safety testing in accordance with manufacturer, regulatory, and department guidelines. This position provides on-call support after normal working hours on a rotational basis and supports special projects and installations under the guidance of the Clinical Engineer or management.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
o Associate’s degree in Biomedical Technology (BMET), Electronics Engineering or related field OR successful completion of Military BMET training
o Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or Electronics Engineering preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
o Five years of experience in maintaining electronics or electromechanical equipment, or four years maintaining medical equipment
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
o Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
o Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
o Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
o Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
o Multi-task oriented, ability to complete work within designated time frames
