Job Summary

The Intern Chaplain is responsible to learn in supervised education how to provide spiritual care to meet the spiritual, religious, emotional, and psychological needs of patients, families, and hospital employees; to assist in the planning and implementation of department services and functions in conjunction with other department members.

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Job responsibilities labeled EF capture those duties that are essential functions of the job.

 

PEOPLE

Provides spiritual screening and assessment on patients, family members, and staff (EF).

Cooperates with staff chaplains to provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff on assigned clinical units and on call

 

SERVICE

Provides crisis intervention for patients, families, and health care staff with attention to spiritual needs

 

QUALITY/SAFETY

Cooperates with other health care professionals in the patient rounds, discharge planning, support groups, sacred story groups, and other multi-disciplinary teams.  Assists in the identification of the needs of patients and the development of patient care plans.

 

FINANCE

Participates in the rotation for 12-hour on call; delegates or responds to all referrals and requests when on call.

 

GROWTH/INNOVATION

Participates fully in the Clinical Pastoral Education program.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

 

¿ Graduation from, or enrollment in, an accredited college or equivalent

¿ Master Degree in Divinity from an accredited seminary preferred  

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

2 years of experience (paid or unpaid) in active involvement in a faith/belief group setting.

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

 

Affiliation with a recognized faith/belief

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

 

Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.

Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.

 

Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
