Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, Department of Cardiology is seeking a Division Chief for the Division of advanced heart failure that oversees Heart Failure, Mechanical assist devices, Cardiac Transplantation and pulmonary hypertension efforts of the department. The candidate should be an accomplished nationally recognized Cardiologist, Board certified in Advanced Heart Failure, with a rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The candidate should have a strong academic reputation and the qualifications to lead one of the largest and most comprehensive heart failure programs with activities capturing the spectrum of heart failure: Heart Failure disease management/ Cardiac transplant and LVAD/ Cardiogenic Shock/ Pulmonary hypertension/ Cardio oncology and Cardiac Amyloid programs.

The Advanced Heart failure division is a mature division comprising of 7 full-time faculty who are all board certified in Advanced Heart failure. The division has an established and active clinical program. The faculty are also engaged in various innovations and research activities including national clinical trials, investigator initiated clinical studied and basic and translational research.. There is a dedicated basic and translational heart failure Laboratory within the division and faculty work in close collaboration with basic researchers in the Houston Methodist Research Institute. The Program trains 3 Advanced Heart Failure Fellows yearly in addition to medical residents and core cardiology fellows, and offers many educational conferences and symposia in heart failure, MCS and transplantation medicine.  Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center has a new state-of-the-art clinical facility for both inpatient care (new Walter Tower with 360 beds, 13 cardiac catheterization labs, 3 hybrid rooms) and outpatient longitudinal care. The J.C Walter Jr. Transplant center is regarded as one of the flagship programs of the Houston Methodist Hospital and oversees all solid organ transplant and end organ interventions and works in close collaboration with the DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center for the Heart Transplant and Durable Mechanical Assist Devices program.

Houston Methodist has a storied tradition in cardiac care and advanced heart failure in specific There have been many firsts for example placement of the first pulsatile LVAD and the creation of the first continuous flow axial pump in partnership with NASA and Dr. Michael DeBakey. In addition, over 1000 heart transplants have been performed at Houston Methodsit Hosptial and this includes one of the largest multi-organ transplant programs in the country.
