Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, located at the intersection of TX 242 and I-45, is scheduled to open in July 2017. Construction includes a 150,000-square-foot medical building, which opened March 2016. The Medical Office Building 1 includes a Breast Care Center, Cancer Center & Infusion Center, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Wellness Services, Outpatient Laboratory and Therapy, in addition to multi-specialty physician practices.
Job Summary

This position will perform a variety of environmental service duties to maintain the Hospital in a neat, orderly and sanitary condition.  Performs assignments, which may include one or more of the following: operating of floor cleaning equipment to maintain the floors and carpets throughout the facility; cleaning of certain medical equipment/instruments and rooms to insure sterilization and disinfection (terminal cleaning), specifically in the Surgery or Cath Lab Departments.  Performs daily cleaning assignments which also may include linen collection, room set-up and emptying trash.  Employee will pursue a high quality standard by using appropriate cleaning supplies, equipment, and techniques.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 25%

  1. As directed, may assist with room set-up for meetings or Hospital functions.

SERVICE - 25%

  1. Maintains all assigned patient areas, ancillary areas, department areas, clinic areas and corridors with the correct routine or preventative maintenance procedures as outlined in department policy or as requested. 
  2. Inspects own work and utilizes cleaning techniques/procedures as outlined in floor maintenance program. 
  3. Utilizes electrical motorized floor equipment for routine maintenance of resilient floors and carpets. 
  4. Will assist in clean linen distribution, soiled linen collection, medical and regular waste removal, and OR/Cath Lab terminal cleaning as assigned. 

QUALITY/SAFETY - 25%

  1. Will be efficient and safe in the use of housekeeping equipment and solutions as observed by Management. 
  2. Will provide routine cleaning maintenance of all equipment used. 
  3. Expected to report all faulty equipment promptly. 
  4. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.

 

FINANCE - 0%

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 25%

  1. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by adherence to hospital and departmental annual training commitments.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED preferred; Will consider 2 years of experience in lieu of education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year of environmental services/floor care experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Responsible for cleaning safety precautions.
  • Must be able to pass all mandatory in-services and all job specific competency testing.
  • Will complete all work in a timely fashion, and according to high quality standards.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work by continuous walking, bending, lifting and standing.  Must be able to use electronic equipment.  Must be able to lift over 45lbs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Majority of work will be conducted indoors within the main hospital and medical office.  May be requested to work overtime if needed and rotate shifts if needed, including some holidays and weekends.  Must be able to follow universal precautions and wear protective attire when required.  May include exposure to hazardous chemicals and blood borne pathogens.  Will be utilizing solvents and detergents associated with hospital grade cleaning chemicals.
