Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, located at the intersection of TX 242 and I-45, is scheduled to open in July 2017. Construction includes a 150,000-square-foot medical building, which opened March 2016. The Medical Office Building 1 includes a Breast Care Center, Cancer Center & Infusion Center, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Wellness Services, Outpatient Laboratory and Therapy, in addition to multi-specialty physician practices.
Job Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides routine nuclear medicine procedures according to physician’s orders and hospital policy.  Prepares, dispenses and administers radioactive pharmaceuticals.  Performs quality control of the Nuclear Medicine Laboratory, and maintains required laboratory records.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 25%

  1. Demonstrates the components of the I CARE values statement (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence). 
  2. SERVICE - 25%

  1. Works with registration department to provide information for coordinating patient scheduling, checks all patient information for accuracy, and affixes labels to all patient records.  Verifies that patient records are accurate and complete. 
  2. Communicates and documents any changes in the condition of the patient to the radiologist and/or Emergency department physician. Creates a positive environment for the delivery of patient care/ Commutates effectively and serves as a resource person for all co-workers that requires attention.

QUALITY/SAFETY - 25%

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety and performs duties according to policy / procedure and regulatory standards with minimal supervision.
  2. Maintains the receipt and disposal records for radioactive materials. Maintaining QC & QA equipment/log in area/ Maintains Equipment Preventive Maintenance. Ensure service logs are completed by vendor. Insure that all exams are carried out with physician’s orders. Ensure appropriate Par Levels in department.
  3. Annual Competency Skills Check Off List/ Preceptor for New Employees. Ensure Joint Commission Initiatives are followed.
  4. Follows all safety rules while on the job.  Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards.  Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace. 

FINANCE - 0%

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 25%

  1. Demonstrates the ability to learn PACS, RIS and computer systems and hospital      information system. Organizes and prepares laboratory for procedure performance, reviews information in patients chart, confirms patient diagnosis and orders.
  2. Demonstrates the ability to perform intravenous cauterization, utilizes syringe        shielding practices, and obtains high quality images. Phlebotomy skills. Participates in performance improvements and quality assurance programs specific to nuclear medicine. 
  3. Preceptor for New Employees/ Train personnel and physicians in the use of PACS.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED.  Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program or Radiologic Technology program or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Graduate of an accredited program.  Competency in all components of Nuclear Medicine practices.  Competency in knowledge and performance of Nuclear Medicine procedures One year of experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (N) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Certified Medical Radiological Technologist from Texas Department of Health  
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Professional appearance and demeanor. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English. Bilingual abilities a plus. 
  • Knowledge of State and other Regulatory agency requirements.
  • Computer knowledge with and ability to utilize department and hospital specific applications.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Includes office, patient care units, invasive procedure areas. 
  • Includes exposure to hazardous chemicals, radioactive sources and possible blood borne pathogens.  Adherence to universal precautions is mandatory. 
  • Ability to flex hours a take call to meet needs related to unanticipated acuity, volume changes or problems
