JOB SUMMARY

The Brannan lab at Houston Methodist Research Institute is seeking self-motivated Postdoctoral Fellows to join our team at the Center for RNA Therapeutics. Our work is supported by Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and National Institutes of Health (NINDS K22) awards. We are an RNA biology, technology development, and RNA therapeutics lab exploring the RNA-protein interactions that drive cancer and neurological disorders

Cancer: Post-transcriptional proteome rewiring by RNA-protein interactions confers plasticity that is central to cancer onset, progression, and therapeutic resistance. Cancer focused projects will seek to understand how these interactions alter translational landscapes to drive cancer and respond to therapies.

Neurological disorders: Defects in the nucleocytoplasmic transport (NCT) of RNA and protein cargos are hallmarks of neurodegenerative diseases including Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Neurodegeneration focused projects will explore how the RNA binding activity of NCT factors mechanistically regulates gene expression, and how disruption of this activity contributes to these disease phenotypes.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will have the opportunity to utilize cell culture and animal models, genome and transcriptome engineering, high-throughput screening, proteomics, and multimodal single-cell and long-read sequencing methods.  Using these approaches, the candidate will lead innovative projects that bridge RNA systems biology and RNA therapeutics development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct and optimize molecular biology research experiments.
  • Collect, analyze and visualize results for presentation and publication.
