Job Summary

Program Project Manager develops mentorship and coaching plans for research and clinical trainees and faculty from academic departments and programs.  The Program Project Manager will be responsible for coaching mentors and leaders to achieve successful implementation of mentorship plans in coordination with all current and ongoing activities for academic career and professional development within Houston Methodist and at affiliated and non-affiliated institutions.  This position will assist in the development and preservation of these relationships in support of mentorship projects.  The Program Project Manager will contribute to planning for academic development, develop communication plans, and allocate resources (material and personnel) for all program projects.  The Program Project Manager will also maintain an organized and structured process and metrics by which activities are documented, maintained, and reported in accordance with project needs.

  1. Coordinates face to face discussions between stakeholders to encourage effective transfer of ideas and information. 
  2. Develops and maintains positive working relationships to ensure that stakeholders are informed of modifications, updates, and improvements to projects in a timely manner. 
  3. Communicates results clearly and concisely and provides progress reports in an organized, consistent manner.


    SERVICE - 20%

  1. Assists in the preparation and coordination of materials and activities for the program
  2. Work with internal investigators who are interested in starting their own programs to further Houston Methodist academic development.
  3. Maintain and provide  a library of templates and educational materials for academic development.
  4. Provide careful coordination with internal offices including, HR, research integrity, organizational development, academic development, graduate & trainee affairs, faculty affairs, communications & external relations, and business practices.



  1. Maintains organized records of all program participants and impact metrics to be readily available to leadership as well as reporting purposes.


    FINANCE - 25%

  1. Understands project objectives, information and ideas presented and delineates plans to achieve deliverables in a specific measurable, attainable, relevant and timely manner to assist the program and its project goals.
  2. Manages and maintains project-relevant information and documentation needed from project conception to completion as well as maintaining records as required for each project.



  1. Support ongoing outreach, pilot programs and project management activities of the department’s major projects.
  2. Demonstrate flexibility and innovation in program offerings to achieve success.
  3. Develop an inventory of support mechanisms through intraorganizational and interinstitutional networking and partnerships to develop best practices and innovative adaptations to our environment.

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or terminal degree preferred.


Minimum 3 years’ experience in academic institution or a health center (academic or clinical)




  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
