Job Summary

This position is designed to provide specialized project and research support to the Principal Investigator on various large-scale research investigations, with an emphasis on those that are translational in nature. Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and Department Administrator, the Research Associate will support administrative and technical related duties assigned, including specialized study, protocol development, project coordination  of critical issues in the field of tissue engineering, drug delivery and regenerative medicine. Knowledge in preclinical USDA approved animal models and strong surgical skills are preferred. The main duties for this role include: support in the initiation and execution of various preclinical investigations; performing surgical procedures, tracking and analyzing key outcome measures, coordinating team meetings and developing presentations for a variety of audiences.

The Research Associate will be responsible for providing advanced technical research skills and establishing test methods and procedures under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Strong project management skills are necessary, will be involved in coordinating a large-scale, multi-site preclinical strategic project, as well as multiple smaller projects. Local regulatory experience with writing IACUC, maintaining, supervising, and executing multiple animal protocols is highly desirable. The Research Associate will assist in the organization, recording, tabulation and analysis of data utilizing a variety of internal and external data sources and software tools.

  1. Oversees a team of Research Assistants and Post Docs 0-2.

  2. Assigns and reviews work of research project staff.

  3. Completes/performs research experiments and incorporates novel procedures and methods into research experiments as appropriate.


  1. Plans, directs and coordinates laboratory research projects (Low to medium complexity)

  2. Keeps good records of all procedures and outcomes.

  3. Analyze data for research grants and publications.

  4. Reviews scientific literature.


  1. Establishes and maintains quality control of project operations.

  2. Writes and maintains regulatory and safety committee applications/protocols

  3. Adheres to and assists with customizing of TMH and TMHRI Safety Procedures for Laboratory.


  1. Plans and carefully designs experiments.

  2. Keeps projects on required timelines.

  3. A steward of HM’s resources and considers this for supply orders.

  4. Researches best cost/quality options for supply orders.

  5. Assists with ensuring orders are on appropriate grants.


  1. Participates in grant writing. 

  2. Determines specific research project goals and objectives to be attained. Assumes responsibility and oversight for those goals and objectives.

  3. Prepares scientific presentations for departmental meetings.

  • MS with minimum 5 years experience OR

  • Terminal degree with minimum 2 years experience

  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.

Ability to work in office setting, involving the use of office equipment and supplies.  Ability to work in a laboratory and/or animal research facility.  Work in animal research facility requires health evaluation and approval by the HMH Employee Health or HMH Wellness department.
