Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, is responsible for routine installation, testing, analysis and support of all elements of the network facilities (including power, communications machinery, software, lines, modems, and terminals), ensuring stable network performance. Monitors and controls performance and status of the network resources. Utilizes software and hardware tools, identifies and diagnoses problems and factors affecting network performance. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures relating to network technologies, to the completion of moderately difficult assignments.  Troubleshoots networking and operating systems problems, providing technical assistance and resolution.  Assess network needs and designs solutions that conform to corporate standards for projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations and identifying problems.
  2. Work assignments have system definition / implementation focus.
  3. Leads small to large scale projects.
  4. Has substantial client interaction.
  5. May have some budget management responsibility for projects.
  6. Provides leadership on design initiatives and large projects.
  7. Provides direction and mentoring to less experienced team members.
  8. Interacts and communicates effectively with customers, team members and management.
  9. Demonstrates effective use of time management skills. 
  10. Demonstrates and supports the Methodist vision, mission and value statements.
  11. Demonstrates and supports the Methodist customer service standards.
  12. Adheres to system, division and department policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in computer science/programming, degree preferred, or equivalent combination of experience and education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 6 years of progressive data network engineering experience, intermediate project management skills. Healthcare experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

CCIE is recommended. CCNP, CCDP required.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. Strong problem solving, analysis, design, communication, documentation, implementation, customer service skills.
  2. Strong experience in multiple network protocols and practical application in an enterprise networking environment. 
  3. In-depth knowledge of routing, switching and WAN services
  4. Strong experience with router and switch configuration.
  5. Understanding of firewall configuration
  6. Broad knowledge of networking concepts, TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs
  7. Firm understanding of WAN protocols (BGP, EIGRP, MPLS and OSPF).
  8. Resolve problems related to PCs, servers, and Cisco network switches.
  9. Troubleshoot basic problems related to DNS, DHCP, and WINS protocols
  10. Install all new hardware, systems, and software for networks.
  11. Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment and devices.
  12. Plans and supports network and computing infrastructure.
  13. Perform troubleshooting analysis
  1. of servers, workstations and associated systems.
  2. Documents network problems and resolution for future reference.
  3. Monitors system performance and implements performance tuning.
  4. Oversee network security.
  5. Strong analytical abilities and professional office experience needed.
  6. Understands the issues involved with administering and maintaining corporate infrastructure, including network connectivity, Internet access, email, etc.
  7. Understands the issues involved in administering and maintaining corporate WAN.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
