Summer Internship Program – Hospital Administration/Operations
The Summer Internship program is an innovative, collaborative 10-week unpaid program that allows interns to gain unparalleled exposure into Houston Methodist's operations. Designed for graduate students interested in a career in hospital administration/operations, each intern will work directly with a high-level director on a variety of process improvement, operational, and financial projects in the Texas Medical Center main campus. Prior interns have had the opportunity to work in departments such as: Cath Lab, Operating Room, IT, Finance, Global Services, Case Management, Transplant Center, Pharmacy, Outpatient Center, Supply Chain Management, and many more.
The interns will also have opportunity to participate in a Summer Lecture Series which consists of a series of round-table discussions with senior leadership throughout the organization. The intern is responsible for the completion of projects as assigned by the director/preceptor.
Program will begin June 5, 2017 and end August 11, 2017.
"The opportunity to complete my summer internship with Roberta Schwartz, Executive Vice President of Houston Methodist Hospital, allowed me to not only interact and network with hospital leaders and health care professionals across the hospital, but begin to analyze health care on a broader scale. My summer internship challenged me to never stop learning and never stop being uncomfortable, as I learned that if you aren’t uncomfortable, you aren’t learning. The skills, knowledge, and exposure gained from the summer internship program have provided me a skill set that I am able to apply in my new job. I find myself frequently pulling the experience and expertise learned from my internship every day. I will forever appreciate the guidance I received and cherish the relationships I developed throughout the summer at Houston Methodist Hospital."

"I was fortunate enough to be offered a summer internship with Houston Methodist back in '98. I was assigned to projects within peri-operative services (OR management, sterile processing, materials management, etc). The experience I gained learning hospital operations that summer I still carry with me every day as a Director for Houston Methodist years later. From day one Houston Methodist has treated me like family and I have enjoyed each day since."

"Five years ago I had a goal to transition my career from financial services to something that was consistently growing in a positive direction. I wanted to leave my comfort zone and discover something challenging and new. I searched for that perfect internship to give me the opportunity to use my unique skills and develop many more. In interning here I found an invaluable experience which has blossomed into a career which I could have only dreamed about five years ago. This was not a paper pushing, filing, sitting around doing nothing summer. We worked on many projects which had a lasting effect. There was an expectation of excellence asked of us all. This was the most rewarding professional experience of my career."
