At Houston Methodist, the Workday Functional Analyst position is responsible for ensuring Workday HCM processes align to support Houston Methodist operational needs, focusing on technology automation, innovation, and system utilization. This position leads the review, design, and continuous improvement of Workday business processes, gathers and analyzes business and technical requirements, and partners with Information Technology (IT) and HR to develop effective system solutions. The Workday Functional Analyst position collaborates with HR, Finance, IT, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders to ensure Workday supports organizational goals, fair and competitive practices, and a culture of high reliability. This position will conduct data comparisons across multiple sources to derive insights and support decision-making. Serving as a subject matter expert and primary liaison between HR Operations and IT, the Workday Functional Analyst position maintains data integrity, oversees system configuration, designs and leads system testing and report development.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business Administration, Health Administration, Human Resources, or related discipline

EXPERIENCE
  • Five years of Human Capital Management functional experience or prior project management, information technology, business intelligence, decision science or related field
  • One year of experience in the Workday ecosystem, implementing or operating Workday; Will consider internal candidates with two years of Houston Methodist experience in Human Resources, project management, business intelligence, information technology, decision science and/or HRIS
  • Experience working in a complex healthcare or large enterprise environment preferred
  • Two years human resources experience preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Preferred
  • PHR - Professional in Human Resources (HRCI) or
  • SPHR - Senior Professional in Human Resources (SHRM) or
  • SHRM-CP - Certified Professional in HR (SHRM) or
  • SHRM-SCP - Senior Certified Professional in HR (SHRM) or
  • PMP - Certified Project Management Professional (PMI)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
  • Background includes functional use and/or configuration of one or more of the following Workday functional areas: Workday Core HCM, Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, Absence Management, People Experience (PEX), Recruiting, Learning, Reporting and/or Security
  • Strong understanding of the HR processes and procedures (i.e. recruiting, compensation, benefits, payroll, time tracking, etc.)
  • Ability to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract from low-level information to a more general understanding, distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs, and distinguish solution ideas from requirements
  • Ability to work with a vast array of information gathered during elicitation and analysis and to cope with rapidly changing information and priorities
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in areas of responsibility
  • Ability to help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among customers, technologists, and management. Strong teamwork skills at all levels are critical
  • Understands concepts of Data Warehousing applications, tools, functions, and features


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collaborates with HR leadership and internal stakeholders to evaluate and optimize work processes, enhance operational efficiency, explore innovative approaches, maximize the value of HR technologies and enhance employee experience.
  • Provides consultation to HR Centers of Excellence (COE’s), building domain knowledge, gathering requirements, providing solutions and impact analysis.
  • Serves as the HR Technology partner supporting designated HCM areas in Workday, such as Core HR, Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, Absence Management, People Experience (PEX), Recruiting, Learning, Reporting and Security.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Holds responsibility for the ongoing configuration, optimization, and maintenance of Workday HCM functional areas, including Core HR, Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, Absence Management, People Experience (PEX), Recruiting, Learning, Reporting and Security.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on current and upcoming Workday capabilities including developing, testing, and deploying new or updated business processes and system configurations to align with changing organizational requirements.
  • Ensures new training materials and quick reference guides are created, maintained and are continuously updated to support user adoption.
  • Reviews and responds to Workday Help and ServiceNow cases, resolving issues or escalating as needed per department standards.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintains master data values in Workday (ex: Job Profile, Job Family, Job Group, Roles, Custom Organization Types, Positions, Locations).
  • Assists in testing of integrations, security, releases and annual events.
  • Oversees the monitoring, implementation, and deployment of system updates, new feature releases, and platform enhancements to ensure optimal performance and functionality.
  • Ensures data accuracy, manage security and access controls, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory policies.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Applies principles of qualitative and quantitative data design and analysis to support organizational workforce planning, including but not limited to human capital needs, full-time equivalent (FTE) management, cost control, and position oversight.
  • Utilizes resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintains awareness of current trends on job-specific knowledge by attending training courses and professional organizational meetings and reading job-related professional journals/publications. Proactively identifies system and process innovation opportunities.
  • Seeks opportunities to identify self-development needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an ongoing basis.
