Alumni Testimonials

The opportunity to complete my summer internship with Roberta Schwartz, Executive Vice President of Houston Methodist Hospital, allowed me to not only interact and network with hospital leaders and health care professionals across the hospital, but begin to analyze health care on a broader scale. My summer internship challenged me to never stop learning and never stop being uncomfortable, as I learned that if you aren’t uncomfortable, you aren’t learning. The skills, knowledge, and exposure gained from the summer internship program have provided me a skill set that I am able to apply in my new job. I find myself frequently pulling the experience and expertise learned from my internship every day. I will forever appreciate the guidance I received and cherish the relationships I developed throughout the summer at Houston Methodist Hospital.

I was fortunate enough to be offered a summer internship with Houston Methodist back in '98. I was assigned to projects within peri-operative services (OR management, sterile processing, materials management, etc). The experience I gained learning hospital operations that summer I still carry with me every day as a Director for Houston Methodist years later. From day one Houston Methodist has treated me like family and I have enjoyed each day since.

After starting as a volunteer with no health care experience, I was excited to have the opportunity to be a summer intern in the cardiac catheterization lab at Houston Methodist Hospital. This experience allowed me to obtain hands-on experience in one of the hospital’s busiest procedural areas, collaborate with management on a project that made an impact in the department, and learn from the dedicated executives that make this prestigious institution function. I would not be where I am today without the professional relationships I built and the countless lessons I learned from this internship at Houston Methodist Hospital.

During the process of pursuing a graduate degree in healthcare management, I stumbled upon the Summer Internship Program for Hospital Administration/Operations. I was fortunate to have been accepted in the Summer of 2021. My time as an intern was invaluable, and the experience has helped paved the way for the rest of my career since. The advice, skills, and connections gained from Houston Methodist Hospital leadership are ones that I will carry for the rest of my life.

I had the opportunity to be a summer intern working in Organizational Development, where I participated on multiple projects working closely with project managers and directors. Throughout this internship I was able to gain knowledge, experience, and make connections throughout the organization. As an intern, I had privilege of meeting with senior leadership and found mentors who provided expertise and guidance. I learned what it meant to be a part of Houston Methodist and the importance of I CARE values. It was a very rewarding experience that I will continue to cherish moving forward in my career.
