At Houston Methodist, the Stocker position is responsible for performing routine inventory, stocking, and issuing tasks. This position receives, records and rotates food items in freezer/refrigerator and storeroom. The Stocker position may assist in receiving of supplies from vendors and maintaining unit sanitation. This position must adhere to Food and Nutrition Services policies and follows guidelines in accordance with city ordinances, demonstrating adherence to policies, procedures, departmental Code of Conduct, local and federal regulatory standards (e.g., Texas Department of Health, Houston Department of Health and Human Services, HIPAA, etc.), as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.) preferred

EXPERIENCE
  • One year stocking experience preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
  • Food Handlers Permit - Various Issuers Accredited food handler training course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TXDSHS) or by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
  • Math skills should allow for counting of supplies and understanding simple fractions, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works in conjunction with the Executive Chef/Chef Manager ensuring the food is stored and rotated according to food safety standards.
  • Assists in receiving all incoming supplies, inspecting for damage and verifying quantities in a timely manner and according to established department procedures. Pulls inventory from storage as required for meal service.
  • Maintains floors, walls, drains, windows, doors, equipment, refrigerators and freezers in a clean sanitary condition. Follows cleaning schedules. Break-down boxes and transport trash to dumpster or recycling area.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding hazards identified in the workplace.
  • Transports products using appropriate transport devices using proper safety standards in on- and off-stage areas.
  • Assists department by protecting the security of Food Control and its inventory by keeping all doors locked and secure at all times according to department policy.
  • Handles food supplies according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures to maintain product quality and prevent any detriment to food safety.
  • Stocking inventory in appropriate spaces. Storing all items on shelves as per guidelines and/or other city, regulatory agencies, as applicable.
  • Filling requisitions turned in from other Food and Nutrition Services areas using proper techniques to weigh, count and/or examine items to assure accuracy.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Stocks on- and off-stage areas in retail spaces with appropriate merchandise, as appropriate. Sorts and stores perishable and non-perishable food items. Maintains organization of supplies and rotates stock as deliveries using a First In First Out (FIFO) method.
  • Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritizes department daily tasks, minimizing incidental overtime.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Offers innovative solutions through participation in performance improvement projects and inter-departmental initiatives. Follows up on action items as necessary to ensure completion of assignments.
