At Houston Methodist, the Administrative Fellow position is responsible for participating in a series of rotations throughout the academic medical center, community hospitals, Physician Organization, Global and various corporate service departments. This position is responsible for project management as assigned, including leading, coordinating and completing projects related to the strategic, financial, and market development activities of the hospital. The Administrative Fellow position is ultimately responsible for ensuring client satisfaction, including managing client expectations and deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in healthcare, business administration or related field, required within one year of hire
  • Completion of classroom learning prior to initiating the fellowship program


EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in a healthcare setting with a solid understanding of healthcare operations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participates as a member of the hospital management team. Assists in the coordination of the Administrative Fellowship selection process.
  • Establishes and maintains clear and concise communication, leading and initiating problem resolution related to the project scope. Identifies needs and constraints of project scope and status availability. Facilitates communication, managing stakeholder(s) expectations.
  • Ensures responsibility for knowledge transfer to other staff and may review technical work of other staff.
  • Works creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment fostering teamwork, innovation and excellence. Actively leads and participates in meetings and provides meaningful contributions that drive decision-making and clearly identifies next steps.


SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Works in collaboration with leader to drive project to successful outcomes, serving in an advisory capacity for complex business decisions by identifying needs, making assessments and problem solving.
  • Prepares high-quality, written documents, proposals and presentations necessary to present to clients. Utilizes a variety of software applications to create/compose both non-routine and sensitive executive-level communications and reports.
  • Completes and manages projects as assigned by the hospital executive that builds on Houston Methodist’s mission, strategy and strategic business plan.
  • Chairs and serves on related task forces and committees as directed. Assists in the development of long-term tactics and strategies for the Hospital.


QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Actively participates on quality improvement teams, proactively driving quality improvement initiatives to ensure the best possible delivery of service, quality outcomes, and high customer satisfaction, as appropriate.
  • Analyzes, measures and drives project performance, utilizing data, gathering tools and methods needed for project requirements. Communicates and disseminates timely data analysis and findings to management and appropriate entities and/or identified committees. Ensures quality and timely execution of client deliverables.
  • Makes significant contributions, and/or provides technical/operational leadership to high visibility projects to identify and resolve issues of strategic importance to various assigned projects. Partners with team to ensure superior delivery of service and acts as liaison between all parties involved.


FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Utilizes efficient and cost-effective work practices with department resources and supplies; provides recommendations to reduce expenses. Completes timely and accurate expense reports as determined by leadership, as applicable.
  • Designs research plans for data gathering and analysis; significantly participates in interpreting analysis and developing action plans accordingly.


GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Analyzes and assesses present and future needs, trends, challenges, and opportunities. Participates in strategic planning for department. Generates and communicates new, innovative ideas and suggestions that improve quality or service.
  • Supports hospital and department goals and offers innovative solutions through participation in department projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of current practices. Completes and updates My Development plan on an on-going basis. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management.
