Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is seeking a full time, highly motivated Neurocritical Care Physician to join our team at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. As a consultant, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing brain-centered medical care to critically ill patients with neurological disorders, including aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, acute management of ischemic cerebral infarcts and peri operative neurosurgical care. The candidate will collaborate with medical critical care teams to optimize care for neurocritical care patients.
The ideal candidate will also provide general neurology consults and possess excellent clinical and communication skills to work in a multidisciplinary approach. In addition, the optimal candidate will be invested in the growth of the neuroscience program, and function as an integral team member.
Responsibilities:
- Provide brain-centered medical care to critically ill patients with neurological disorders.
- Develop and implement evidence-based, patient-centered treatment plans, with a focus on optimizing patients' brain health.
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, including ED staff, neurosurgeons, medical intensivists, and critical care nurses, to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Use advanced techniques, including mechanical ventilation, intracranial pressure monitoring, and therapeutic hypothermia, to manage critically ill patients.
- Perform critical care skills such as intubation and central line insertion.
- Manage critical care medicine outside the brain, such as ARDS and shock.
- Work closely with neurosurgery patients to optimize perioperative care and improve long-term outcomes.
- Collaborate with medical critical care teams to optimize care for critically ill patients with neurological disorders.
- Communicate with patients' families and caregivers to provide updates on their condition and explain treatment options.
- Provide education to hospital staff on brain-centered medical care and the management of patients with neurological disorders.
- Provide neurology consults to patients in the hospital and assist with diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to advance neuroscience care at the hospital.
- Week on, week off schedule, working 24 weeks a year or 168 shifts. Additional shifts will be compensated.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a residency program and fellowship in Neurocritical Care.
- Board certification in Neurocritical Care.
- Current state medical license.
- Over 1 year of experience in neurocritical care.
- Well-versed in evidence-based critical care, including the latest advances in the field.
- Competency in general neurology and acute stroke care.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent clinical skills, including experience with mechanical ventilation, intracranial pressure monitoring, and therapeutic hypothermia.
- Ability to manage critical care medicine such as ARDS and shock, with a focus on minimizing their impact on patients' brain health.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.
