Houston Methodist Administrative Fellowship Program Overview

This eighteen-month program provides comprehensive exposure to operations, finance, strategic planning, and management - in both academic and community hospital settings. Rotation-based, the first few weeks are spent meeting with senior leadership throughout the organization and learning about key initiatives. Following the orientation period, individuals enter into a rotation-based curriculum with some customization available to optimize his/her experience. Hospital and departmental projects are assigned over the course of the year. Fellows work directly with executives throughout the program.

Do you accept individuals who have not completed the academic portion of their Master’s degree?

No, applicants must complete the didactic portion of their degree in order to be eligible for the Administrative Fellowship Programs.

Do you accept individuals who have completed the didactic portion of their Master’s degree, but have not officially graduated?

Yes, we do. As long as you have completed the didactic (classroom) portion of your Master’s degree before July 1, 2024, you are eligible to apply.

Are International applicants eligible to apply to the Fellowship programs?

We appreciate and encourage interest from international students and regularly have international candidates apply to our program. In the past, we have typically not discussed visa related issues until reaching the final round of interviews. The Administrative Fellowship program at Houston Methodist prides itself on recruiting top current and potential talent. Our Human Resources department is familiar with international and visa related issues and we rely on their expertise, if needed.

Will you notify me if my application is complete/incomplete?

We will notify you via email once your application is complete. This notification will be provided within five business days. We will not notify you if your application is incomplete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

What if I cannot get an electronic copy of my transcript?

If your school does not provide electronic transcript, then we will accept an official copy of your transcript.

Do you accept International transcripts?

Yes, however International transcripts must be translated to the US equivalent by a certified organization.

Will you accept electronic letters of recommendation?

Yes, scanned letters of recommendation are preferred. All letters of recommendation must be signed.

How many fellows does Houston Methodist accept each year?

Houston Methodist typically selects one to three administrative fellows for the administrative fellowship. This varies based on the applicant pool and the caliber of the candidates.

How long is the Houston Methodist Administrative Fellowship Program?

The fellowship program is 18 months in length.

What types of projects do fellows complete during their fellowship?

It varies with each fellow’s experience. Fellows complete a mix of long-term projects and short-term projects in order to give them the opportunity to work on a project from beginning to end.

What is the salary for a fellow?

Fellows are provided a competitive salary and full benefits for 18 months. A relocation package may also be available.

How well known is the fellowship throughout the organization?

Houston Methodist Administrative Fellowship Program has been in existence since 1977. The fellowship is very well known throughout the organization and senior leaders actively welcome fellows to join them in meetings and collaborate on projects. In fact, many of our executives are former fellows and are strongly committed to the fellowship program or the value a fellowship has on a career.

What kinds of jobs can fellows expect to get after they complete their fellowship?

This truly depends on a myriad of factors such as the qualifications and experiences that the fellow had before the fellowship, the positions available, and the career path that the fellow has determined that he/she wants to pursue. The preceptor and CEOs work with fellows to identify opportunities available post-fellowship. Some examples of post-fellowship positions include project manager, director, and administrative director.

Do fellows typically attend conferences? Are they reimbursed?

Fellows have the opportunity to be reimbursed for two health care conferences of choice during their 18-month fellowship.

Is mentoring and professional support provided for fellows?

Fellows receive support from their preceptor, senior advisors, past fellows, and numerous other managers throughout the organization. They provide personal guidance in the fellowship experience as well as in career selection.
