San Jacinto Memorial Hospital first opened its doors on April 18, 1948. Now, after 75 years and a few name changes, Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital has become the epicenter of our community. Houston Methodist would like to recognize and celebrate our colleagues at Baytown Hospital on this pinnacle milestone.

Since joining our system in 1983, Houston Methodist Baytown has never lost sight of its founders’ original purpose and vision: to create a modern hospital that offers the best in innovation and health care for those in the community. Our teams at Houston Methodist Baytown continue to keep that vision top of mind today.

Living up to this purpose led Houston Methodist Baytown to open the Unity Tower in November 2022, a five-story building providing 75 newly built, private patient rooms. Baytown Hospital’s care teams and their devotion to serving comprehensive, unsurpassed care have motivated us to grow the hospital into what it is today: a central facility, standalone orthopedics and sports medicine facility, cancer center, comprehensive heart and vascular center, breast care center, an expanded childbirth center and two medical office buildings.

David Bernard, CEO of Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital and senior vice president of Houston Methodist, celebrates 75 years of excellence at Baytown by attributing this massive achievement to its staff: “Leading-edge technology and facilities may define our history. But, without a doubt, Houston Methodist Baytown is distinguished by the amazing staff and physicians who provide personalized care and service to the members of our community each day.”

Congratulations to our colleagues at Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital. Thank you for never losing sight of the vision that continues to make us national leaders in health care excellence.

No matter the role, every employee within Houston Methodist works as a leader – making informed decisions, exhibiting the power to always do the right thing and enjoying the freedom to think beyond the ordinary regarding our patients’ health.
